How to measure and suppress the ripple of LED display power supply

1.Generation of power ripple
Our common power sources include linear power sources and switching power sources, whose output DC voltage is obtained by rectifying, filtering, and stabilizing the AC voltage. Due to poor filtering, clutter signals containing periodic and random components will be attached above the DC level, resulting in ripples. Under the rated output voltage and current, the peak of the AC voltage in the output DC voltage is commonly referred to as the ripple voltage. Ripple is a complex clutter signal that fluctuates periodically around the output DC voltage, but the period and amplitude are not fixed values, but change over time, and the ripple shape of different power sources is also different.

2.The Harm of Ripples
Generally speaking, ripples are harmful without any benefits, and the main hazards of ripples are as follows:
a. The ripple carried by the power supply can generate harmonics on the electrical appliance, reducing the efficiency of the power supply;
b. Higher ripple may generate surge voltage or current, leading to abnormal operation of electrical equipment or accelerating equipment aging;
c. Ripples in digital circuits can interfere with circuit logic relationships;
d. Ripples can also cause noise interference to communication, measurement, and measuring instruments, disrupting the normal measurement and measurement of signals, and even damaging equipment.
So when making power supplies, we all need to consider reducing the ripple to a few percent or less. For equipment with high ripple requirements, we should consider reducing the ripple to a smaller size.
