LED light strip is now one of the lamps we often use. This article mainly explains the main components of commonly used light strips and how to identify high-quality light strips.

The so-called high-voltage light strip is the light strip with 220V mains power input. Of course, it is not allowed to directly connect AC 220V, but also need to connect a power supply head, as shown in the figure below.

The structure of this power head is extremely simple. It is a rectifier bridge stack, which converts AC mains power into non-standard DC power. LEDs are semiconductors that require direct current.

1、 Flexible lamp bead plate

The most important part is to stick a proper number of LED patch lamp beads and current limiting resistors on the flexible circuit board.

As we know, the voltage of a single LED lamp bead is 3-5 V; If more than 60 lamp beads are strung together, the voltage can reach about 200V, which is close to the mains voltage of 220V. With the addition of resistance current limiting, the LED lamp bead plate can work normally after the rectified AC power is turned on.

More than 60 lamp beads (of course, there are 120, 240, which are all connected in parallel) are strung together, and the length is close to one meter. Therefore, the high-voltage lamp belt is generally cut by one meter.

The quality requirement of FPC is to ensure the current load of a single string of light strips within one meter. As the single string current is generally at the milliampere level, the copper thickness requirements for high-voltage flexplate are not very high, and single-layer single panel will be used more.

2、 Conductor

The wires connect every meter of light strips. When the wires are running up, the voltage drop of high-voltage DC is very small compared with that of 12V or 24V low-voltage lamps. This is why the high-voltage light strip can roll for 50 meters, or even 100 meters. The wires embedded on both sides of the high-voltage lamp belt are used to transmit high-voltage electricity to each string of flexible lamp beads.

The quality of the wire is very important for the whole high-voltage light strip. Generally, high quality high-voltage light strip wires are made of copper wires, and the sectional area is relatively large, which is abundant compared with the total power of the high-voltage light strip.

However, cheap and low-quality high-voltage light strips will not use copper wires, but copper clad aluminum wires, or directly aluminum wires, or even iron wires. The brightness and power of this kind of light band are naturally not very high, and the probability of the wire burning out due to overload is also quite high. We advise people to avoid buying such light strips.

3、 Potting adhesive

High voltage light is running on the wire with high voltage, which will be dangerous. Insulation must be done well. The general practice is to encapsulate transparent PVC plastics.

This kind of plastic has good light transmission, light weight, good plasticity, insulation and thermal insulation properties. With this layer of protection, the high-voltage lamp belt can be used safely, even outdoors, even when it is windy or rainy.

Knock the blackboard! Here is a cold knowledge: because the performance of transparent PVC plastic is not air after all, there must be some attenuation of light band brightness. This is not a problem. The problem is that it also has an impact on the relevant color temperature of the light strip, which is the headache color temperature drift. Generally speaking, it will float 200-300K higher. For example, if you use a lamp bead with a color temperature of 2700K to make a lamp bead plate, the color temperature after filling and sealing may reach 3000K. You make it with 6500K color temperature, and it runs to 6800K or 7000K after being sealed.
